Making a start on the Collies

Next up on my drawing board is a group portrait of four Border Collies. The overall portrait will be 20x16 inches and in order to fit all four dogs into the agreed composition, which is based on a photo taken with them all in the back of a truck, each dog has to be slightly smaller than I am used to drawing. This is bearing in mind that the smallest sized portrait I do is 10x8 inches. It just means I need to keep my pencils that bit sharper to get all the fine details in.

First up, working left to right, is Barney. And the progress shots so far.

Oh WOW. Barney looks SO good!!

Love his sparkley eyes. Your drawing has even more life than the photo. Can't WAIT to see the rest of this portrait. It's going to be great!!

Amazing how you can make a dog look so realistic. I keep practising. hope one day I will have it happen too.

Your WIP of Barney is so exciting.

Hi Laura, thanks for your comments on my blog, the mellotex paper is only available from printers, but Mike Sibley will supply and ship in sheets, (it's not very good for CP's) Mike is thinking of organising advanced class's which you may be interested in, though I dont think you need any class's!

Thank you Christine and Jennifer:)

Hi Graheme, thanks for the info on mellotex - my intention was to use it with graphite as from what I have heard about it I'm not sure coloured pencils would work all that well (at least not for the amount of layers I do:-D)

I had planned to go to one of Mike's workshops at the end of last year but life got in the way - it is something on my to do list however:)

Me gusta mucho como pintas. ¿Cuanto cuesta una ilustración de mi perro?
Me gustaría que me hicieras una. Espero tu respuesta. Gracias.
