I’ve not had much time to draw lately as I’ve let everything away from the drawing board get on top of me to the point of feeling almost overwhelmed by it all. As a result I’ve been feeling run down and definitely not myself. The good thing about working with pencils is I can pick them up and do bits of drawing here and there when I can and put them down as quickly – no need to worry about clearing away things like paints and cleaning brushes. Only problem with working this way is drawings take even longer to complete! My daughter started back at school yesterday so hopefully I can get myself back into a routine and start working on my ever-increasing ‘to-do’ list.I finished the black Lab I was working on and started another that I would say I am half way through drawing. I’ve included a couple of progress shots to show the stage I'm at with this one.

It is my intention to enter both drawings (hopefully a third if time permits) to an art exhibition held here annually in November in aid of Cancer Research UK. Which reminds me – must fill in my entry form and get it posted!

Dear Laura,
Lovely work!! Good on you. You'll contribute to Cancer Research UK. I did it for Victoria Cancer Council. Hope artists can do a little bit for them.
Kind regards, Sadami
Stunning. Love black labs. Actually I love all dogs.
Lovely depth to these Laura - they are both fabulous drawings. What brand of pencils do you use for your graphite work?
Thank you Sadami - just hope they sell:-D
Thank you Sam - I'm the same but have a huge soft spot for labs (and Boxers):-D
Thanks Sue, I'm using Staedtler Mars Lumograph pencils in grades 4H through to 7B. I'm also drawing on Mellotex and not my usual Fabriano paper as Mellotex is a lot whiter. Think it makes a difference to the way the graphite looks on the paper too - darks are a lot darker somehow:-D
Beautiful... Your black fur is just brilliant!!
Wonder depictions. I too understand that it takes longer when you do it in bis and pieces. ... it also easier to procrastinate too.
Phenomenal work. Simply beautiful.
Thank you for your comments, they are much appreciated;-D And very true Fay - don't need any more excuses to procrastinate:)
Beautiful work as always laura, I must have a go at a black Lab at some time.
Thanks Grahame:-D And yes you must have a go at doing a black lab - look forward to seeing it when you do:)
Wow! The detail in your work is amazing! I can't get over how much it looks like a photograph - especially the dog on the wooden bench. Outstanding. I haven't really tried graphite pencil for years but this has inspired me to give it a go. At the moment, I have a commission for 2 patterdale terriers and I normally use pen and ink in a stippling technique but I fear their curly hair doesn't lend itself to that medium so well! Your work is jaw-droppingly brilliant!
First time I'm visiting your blog and I'm amazed at your incredible talent. The detailed work is "perfection". I am looking forward to seeing your future work.
