I’m really enjoying working with pencil just now so decided to stay with it for my next drawing. Not only that but my subject is the gorgeous Rodaidh who you will be familiar with from my previous post. I wanted the focal point of this drawing to be his face with everything else not being quite as detailed. Not sure if I’m achieving this exactly though or if my hand knows how to do this - before I know it the detail is in. Loosening off now that I’ve made a start on his body – it’s funny because I find I have to think a lot more when trying to achieve less.I've taken a few progress shots along the way which you may (or may not) find interesting.
A Work in Progress

He is just impossibly cute isn't he?
ReplyDeleteI love how you tackle the long silky hairs on his ears. Another stunning portrait :o)
This is too good to be true. Stunningly beautiful as always. Its amazing how you capture the texture of the fur.
ReplyDeleteLoving the graphite, this is fabulous (as always ;-))
ReplyDeleteHe is Sue - I had difficulty choosing just a few references to work from as he looked great in them all. Have to say his ears have taken what seems like forever to do so glad they have been worth it:D
ReplyDeleteThank you Sujit and Geraldine:D
Just amazing how you get the fur detail. Beautiful work.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely beautiful - great work.
ReplyDeleteLooks fantastic. Great character in that facial expression. I know exactly what you mean about the difficulty of trying not to put too much detail in. I often fade out the bodies of my dog drawings and I always used to struggle with that - at what stage to let go of the detail. Before you know it, you've added detail to the entire thing!
ReplyDeleteThanks for posting the WIP pictures. I love watching the piece come to life. This is another outstanding portriat. I absolutely love it.
ReplyDeleteThank you Karen and Judy:D
ReplyDeleteHi Nolon, I love your pencil drawings - really gorgeous. Glad to hear I'm not the only one who struggles with where to stop with the detail - my hand seems to dictate things for me:D
Thank you Delores - glad you like the progress shots:D
What a great expression.
