Sandy

Sandy
8'x6' Coloured Pencil
Copyright Laura Hardie 2010

Sandy is now finished awaiting approval. I think my main problem with working this size (apart from my pencils needing to be that bit sharper:)) was getting used to it looking so small compared to other drawings I have sitting around – my Weim for one, his head is huge in comparison.

Saying this, it’s still a good portrait size and I’ve found I actually like working smaller. Just as well really as I’m now planning my entry to the Canine Art Guild members show where works are to be 5’x5’.

  2. Another beautiful portrait - I especially love that nose!

Do you photograph or scan your work? I really struggle as my scanner doesn't take larger than A4 so I have to use the camera and then spend ages trying to whiten the background etc?? Do you have a recommended method?

  4. Thank you Geraldine:D Doesn't he look adorable - it's the eyebrows I love:D

Thank you Sue:D I always scan my work mainly because I get terrible results if I try photographing it. If my drawing is bigger than A4 size I scan it in parts and 'stitch' it together in photoshop. I do think you get a better result from scanning drawings than photographing them especially if there is a lot of white paper.

I always have to whiten the background and was shown how to do this by another artist last year. I'm sure I blogged the steps, though it may have been in the comments section. Leave it with me and I'll look this out for you:D

Thank you Deborah, you're too kind:D
