'Colin'
8"x10" Coloured Pencil
Copyright Laura Hardie 2010
And he’s finished. Colin is definitely one of those portraits where I could have kept going adding bits here and there where said ‘bits’ wouldn’t actually improve the portrait in any way or more than likely even be noticed by anyone but me. At this stage of a drawing I almost have to force myself to stop for fear of over doing it and it ending up overworked or, worse still, my colours turning grey and ‘muddy’ looking. So no more pencil work will be taking place....... unless of course there are ammendments to be made.

I thought you had uploaded the reference photo here - the portrait is so clear and the colours so brilliant. Love the eyes. That little bit of golden brown in the eye is beautiful.
Amazing and beautiful work. He looks so real that I want to pet him.
He looks amazing, I am really impressed with how the eyes look so real and expressive. You've inspired me to pick up my colored pencils again! Beautiful.
I know it took you longer than you'd hoped but it's fantastic!!

Gosh, Laura, your art is simply awesome. Been catching up on my blog reading...and you've really been busy. Thanks for showing the progression of your work... always interesting to see how an artist works.
I am Colin's owner and we have searched for a long time for the right artist to show the soul Colin has in his eyes and to us what a lovely specimen of the breed he is.
We have without doubt chosen well with Laura, her portrait is little short of stunning, it will certainly not be the last one she does of Colin for us.
Can't say how pleased I am with the portrait.

Just stunning. I just ran across your blog a few days ago, and subscribed just so I could watch this one develop. Your work is not only accurate, it's beautiful. You bring real heart and creativity into the photo-realism, allowing the soul of the animal to shine through. Just lovely!
Hi Teresa and thank you:) I love to see how other artists work too and hope that my progress shots show, if only a little, how I work:)
Hi Gil, thank you so much for taking the time to leave a comment on my blog and I hope you pop in from time to time to see what's on my drawing board:)
